History:

Women of Color Productions was formed in 1998 by Jacqueline Wade and Sharon Hope, to serve the needs of emerging playwrights, directors, filmmakers, actors, dancers, visual artists, and musicians especially Women of Color  (African American, Native American, Arab American, Caribbean, African, Latino, East Indian, Middle Eastern, and Asian origins) who may not have other avenues or venues available to get their work professionally produced.  2006 marks our 6 year for our annual arts festival.

Festival:

Through Her Eyes:  Women of Color Film Festival 2005 marks our 3rd annual film festival.  This is part of Through Her Eyes: Women of Color Arts Festival.  Our first film festival in 2003 was a great success. It took place at the historical Symphony Space Theatre in New York City.  21 different films were presented.  Throughout the years our arts festivals have serviced over 200 different playwrights, performance artists, filmmakers, poets, and visual artists, of diverse cultures. Our past festivals have taken place at such major theater venues as:   La MaMa Etc. Annex, The Theater of the Riverside Church, and Black Spectrum Theatre.  Theatre legend Ellen Stewart from La MaMa Etc opened our first festival with the ringing of her bell.  And world famous actress/director Barbara Montgomery hosted several of our festivals.  In 2002, four plays in our arts festival were nominated for AUDELCO Awards.
